Introduction to Artisan Bakery

Craftsmanship and Traditional Methods

Artisan bakeries rely on time-honored techniques that prioritize slow fermentation, natural ingredients, and skilled baking practices. Each product is made in smaller batches to ensure precision and consistency. This approach allows bakers to create breads, pastries, and specialty items with distinctive textures and deep, well-developed flavors.

Focus on Quality Ingredients

A defining characteristic of artisan bakery products is the use of simple, high-quality ingredients. Many items are prepared with natural grains, fresh toppings, and clean-label components that highlight the true flavor of each ingredient. This emphasis on purity and authenticity aligns with consumer preferences for minimally processed foods.

Growing Appreciation for Authenticity

As consumers become more mindful of the foods they choose, artisan bakery items have gained strong appeal for their authenticity and craftsmanship. People appreciate the uniqueness of handmade products and the connection to traditional baking cultures. This growing interest has encouraged bakeries to innovate…

Picks

Hi Mark, saw you at The Flowerpot recently, brilliant mate. My question is, what picks do you use? Different picks for different tones/guitars/string gauges?

Hi Mark! When the Ash plays smaller venues, it looks like you play a combo amp, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe?

Thanks Mark. Yeah, my bad, I forgot that 5-way switches were only introduced in 1977, and a '62 custom shop is going to have a 3-way switch. Sounds great anyway!

When God gives you a beautiful gift.

Hey Mark, when I sat on the side, in Elkton Maryland and watched you play that guitar, and I had my guitar sitting alongside of me, I was sitting next to the wall, I wanted to break it, I really did. No, it's just a figure of speech. After watching you play that Les Paul Jr, you gave me a whole new perspective on playing guitar. I used to tell myself that I wasn't good enough because I played it upside down like Jimi Hendrix, and I'm impressed by the way I play after I heard you play you gave me the inspiration to go at it stronger. So I want to thank you personally for that. So my question is to you, would be, what inspired you to join Wishbone Ash. I've been listening to Wishbone Ash for a very long time, and I always wanted to play like…

Hi Bob, Thanks for your nice comments and I’m really glad you enjoyed the show in Elkton!

To answer your question, I have also been listening to WA for a very long time and they were actually the reason I wanted to learn guitar as a kid - so I’ve been playing a lot of these songs for a long time.

Cheers

Mark

Pedals

Hi Mark - I've never used pedals, except a Looper once, what pedal would you suggest as a starter? I've seen your pedal board and it looks really complicated so I'm looking to start small - Georgina x

Hi Mark I can see where you are coming from i take out a couple of Roland Blues cubes with the Robben Ford modules in them for a blues jam I run in Salisbury but for my blues band I take out the Kemper but I am sure with the right help I could do better with it I don’t think there is a very good basic instructional video which would help tremendously but probably like you use a few patches that are sound regards Pete. Do you not use strats very much

Curry and other things

Hi Mark

As I hardly know one end of a guitar from the other, I thought I would ask what your favourite curry is….as I do enjoy a ruby myself?

I have seen the band twice on the current tour - at Derby and Holmfirth - and thought both gigs were ace. What tracks are on the Wishlist CD - as this was only available half way through the tour?

Are consecutive tours gruelling and which beer helps you to cope?

Cheers,

Lyndon (top fan).

Thanks Mark - great answers. I must grab a CD when it’s on general release, very good tracks. Wow, chicken vindaloo - a real man! I can only manage a madras. Yes, you can’t go wrong with Marston’s beers - Pedigree is still a nice pint. Wishing you all the best for the USA tour - ‘no easy road’ out there between venues. Hope to see the band and catch up with you on next UK tour in autumn 2025….
